The Registrar of Political Parties confirms receipt of financial report from political parties in malawi

Dr. Tenthani told Zodiak today that his office is currently reviewing the report.

Over the past five years, both the DPP and the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) have received more than K700 million in total from the Treasury. These funds are allocated through Parliament to political parties that secure at least one-tenth of the total parliamentary vote.

Three weeks ago, Dr. Tenthani revealed that the Treasury disbursed K360 million to the DPP and over K352 million to the MCP between the 2019/20 and 2023/24 fiscal years. However, it was only the MCP that had submitted its financial report.

Moving forward, political scientist Vincent Rangel has called on the Registrar to enforce the Political Parties Act of 2018 more proactively. He stressed the need for accountability, urging that political parties must lead by example in managing public resources responsibly.
